David Kantey WhaleTides Concert Experience

Join David Kantey on a musical journey entitled WhaleTides at Kwendalo's Harmony Centre. Visitors will love the natural environment and Kwendalo gardens as the sun sets with a complimentary glass of wine and snacks prepared at Kwendalo's Green Cafe before the enchanting concert begins.

In David's own words: This concert experience is created to share, in the best way that I can - through my music, visuals, and the actual details surrounding an intimate physical encounter with a gentle curious female Southern Right whale one spring morning in our bay.

The four-part orchestral suite of music composed by Kantey, captures the experience beyond mere words. His music transcends the gap between waking reality and imagination. It's like reading a book but without words. Through the power of music, the untapped potential within all of us to be deeply connected with all of life is highlighted. I would describe it as a journey into the heart and soul of a whale's highly sensitive ocean consciousness."

ABOUT DAVID KANTEY

MUSIC: David studied for his B. Music at UCT Music College from 1972-75 and still has a successful career as a composer of orchestral works. Since 1972 he has been composing and performing his original works across South Africa and in particular the WhaleTides Concert Experience which highlights his unique interaction - a life changing experience - with a female Southern Right Whale who guided the terms of the encounter. A vast audience has since been fascinated and affected by this story and the music.

ART: He began his art career as an apprentice in the growing Batik business of the successful Simran Batik community of artists, and over the next 15 years created beautiful popular whale and dolphin imagery. In 2002, he made the successful transition to oil and acrylic paints and has been working in these mediums for the last 20 years at his studio/gallery in The Tides estate, right on the water's edge of the Keurbooms Lagoon, Plettenberg Bay. His earlier works were very accurate realism: Landscapes, seascapes, wildlife, and animal portraits on commission.

David has a constant demand for his works - locally, nationally, and internationally - and a large part of these sales are commissioned works. His works are modern, colorful, semi-abstract sea and landscapes, with a very strong emphasis on light, textures and fine detail. He is constantly striving creatively to grow his arts expression and the phases of this growth always challenge his skills and vision over the years, earning him a solid reputation as a premier fine artist.
